Sustainable Trade
Our standards of compliance, traceability and responsible supply.
Our Position
In the agricultural commodities sector, sustainability and regulatory compliance are inseparable. Traceability underpins certification, and consistent adherence to safety standards underpins the integrity of every supply chain.
Eastway regards compliance as a baseline requirement and traceability as the means by which it is assured.
-
Regulatory Compliance
Goods supplied by Eastway are subject to European Union legislation governing food and feed safety, maximum residue levels for plant protection products, and contaminant limits, including mycotoxins and heavy metals.
All goods originate from operators authorised and supervised by the competent national authorities, including, in Romania, the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), the public health authorities and the environmental authorities.
Each consignment is accompanied by the documentation required by the destination market.
-
Traceability
Each lot supplied by Eastway is traceable to its origin. Origin identification, lot references and accompanying documentation are retained for the full supply chain.
Traceability is a regulatory requirement within the European Union and a central instrument of quality management, enabling any matter to be identified and addressed at the level of an individual lot.
-
Responsible Sourcing
Eastway maintains direct relationships at origin, limiting the number of parties within each supply chain.
Shorter supply chains provide greater transparency regarding production conditions and support fair and timely remuneration of producers, which is fundamental to the continuity and reliability of supply.
-
Handling and Loss Reduction
A significant proportion of losses in agricultural supply chains occurs after harvest, through inadequate handling, packing and storage.
Eastway specifies handling and packing conditions appropriate to each commodity and plans logistics with regard to transit time and product condition. Loss reduction serves both environmental and commercial objectives.
-
Transport
Transport represents the principal environmental factor in physical commodity trade.
Eastway consolidates volumes to optimise load utilisation, plans routes with regard to efficiency and transit time, and gives preference to rail and maritime transport where these represent viable alternatives to road.
Compliance-Led Procurement
Eastway works with buyers operating demanding procurement standards and welcomes detailed technical and compliance requirements at the earliest stage of discussion.
